The Norfolk Horn is one of Britain’s oldest native sheep breeds. It developed on the dry, sandy heathlands of Norfolk, where it adapted to survive on sparse forage and harsh conditions. The Norfolk Horn is foundational in British sheep breeding history. Its cross with the Southdown created the Suffolk breed, now one of the world’s most important meat sheep.

The breed nearly disappeared after the 19th century due to the rise of improved breeds like the Southdown and the development of the Suffolk. By 1919, only one flock remained. Intensive conservation efforts—including back‑crossing with Suffolk, Wiltshire Horn, and Swaledale—helped restore the breed. The fleeces came from nearby local estate who are keen to support this at risk rare breed.

The yarn is bouncy and soft and is a lovely cream colour. It has a 4-5 inch staple and a micron count of 30 to 35. It takes dye well.

This batch of yarn has about 240m per 100g before washing and is likely to shrink to 220m
