Welcome to Woolplay,
a farm to fibre British wool yarn and fibre producer and stockist

Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.

Woolplay has grown out of a small flock of rare breed sheep and their annual fleeces!  It's been a journey of discovery and reconnection with a simpler life, grounded in what we humans have been doing for centuries.  I invite you to join me in cherishing the amazing British sheep breeds we have in this country, supporting the dedicated spinning mills supporting small sheep farmers like me and taking pleasure in the slow lane of wool crafts be it hand dyeing, spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet and much more.

We only stock fibre and yarns made from British wool.  About a third comes from our own sheep - rare breed Leicester Longwools (I really can't use it all myself much as I try!) and those of a couple of fellow local small scale sheep farmers.  We also stock  yarn and fibre from other British rare breed and heritage sheep produced by Blacker Yarns and John Arbon Textiles and Shetland wool direct from Shetland.  In addition, we source more  breed specific wool from Cambrian Wool and Romney Marsh  Wools to increase the number of different British sheep breed yarns we offer.  Not only is British wool great wool, but it has a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to imported yarns.  It also supports British farmers who take the utmost care of animals and nature and for whom finding worthwhile opportunities to sell their fleeces remains difficult until there is more of market for British wool.

And to compliment our yarn and fibre we are delighted to stock woolly and sheep themed gifts from Emma Ball to treat yourself or a friend.

We have textile studio and wool shop at our smallholding on the Norfolk / Suffolk border  which is open a couple of days a week - see top of page for details
